I love this view..it's close to my home and has a nice protected little spot to sit and paint from. I think I'm ready to try a larger version of this. If so it will be my first large landscape in many many ( and I do mean many) years ! This one is 8x10

The Days are Getting Longer: Update
A snow view of my home from last winter
A small commission, some more cards and a sympathy painting for a relative. Long days at the flower shop and overcast afternooons have made it impossible for me to photo what work I've been doing. Also prepping panels and buying tubes of oils ( the better stuff). I'm even trying to get a lot of my yard work finished early this year in anticipation of spending my winter and early spring days painting. And the best part...the days are getting longer!!

Here and There
I'm not sure if I mentioned it, but I get really busy with the floral business this time of year, so the painting ( and the blog) suffer a bit. The weather has also been suffering lately. Here are two quick impressions of of late afternoon sunlight. I've been giving some serious thought on continuing my work with landscape. Such as putting more of my effort into plein air for at least one year. I'm also thinking about birds, figures and architecture within the landscape format. And for the still lifes? I won't abandon them completely, just adding more to the mix. I surely didn't realize three years ago just how limited my abilities were. I'm glad I know that now. I think for the new year the emphasis will be on learning how to better handle paint and how to better compose a picture!

Artistic Legacy
My mother dug this painting out of the trash in my Father's garage. It's probably one of the first his dad (my grandfather) ever did. He did not start to paint until he was in his fifties. I think this one has a nice niave/outsider charm and I'm really glad to have it. I like the crude way he signed the C.Law, although I don't think you can see it in the photo. His name was Charlie...I'm the fourth Charles in line. Here also is another painting of my grandfather's...a later one when he was a bit more accomplished. His real talent was for working with wood. He made beautiful inlaid tables, lamps and carvings of birds. Here is a not so very good picture of the table I have in my living room.

Update
For those of you who check in regularly I just want to let you know that my father has been having some health problems and I've been spending my spare time at the hospital..hence the lack of paintings. He is being operated on tomorrow and hopefully he will be home and on the road to recovery by the middle of next week. So I expect to return to my normal schedual next Tuesday ( the 16th). I plan on doing lots of small paintings in preparation for my upcoming studio show December 2nd so please stay tuned.
Thanks,
Chuck

Dried Oak Leaves
This one is actually a commission from last year. I told my client she would have to wait until the the leaves started to drop again in September to match the pink and greens from the two paintings she purchased a year ago. 5x7 oil

Noyes Exhibit
Three posts at once is a record for me, but I'm a little behind. It was a busy week! I have two paintings at the Noyes from now until the end of October. Two Shells on a Bed of Kelp and the Dried Asian Octopus painting. You probably won't get a chance to see the octopus painting again any time soon. They are part of the
">Signature Artist's Show. There are two other very interesting exhibits going on as well so if you're local you should stop in. The Noyes Musuem is a real gem here in South Jersey! I also met a fellow blogger at the opening; Joanie San Chirico, she is a textile artist. Thats an area I'm not too familiar with, but I know enough to know that her work is quite accomplished. I also did the outdoor Washington Street Mall Show in Cape May this past weekend. Sales were good and I made yet another Artist friend Sandy Jones. She works in Tempera Resist ...a technigue I'm going to try for my personal Christmas cards this year.
