Sunset Beach November 18

Sometimes it's the quick little unplanned paintings that I enjoy the most. Did this one on the way home from the dentist...that's why it's always a good idea to keep my gear ready in the car! 6x6

An Honest Update

It was in October last year when I really started thinking negatively about continuing on with painting. I had finally hit the wall financially. Not that I'm alone with that these day! I could no longer afford to even buy materials let alone pay for the balance of living costs needed from my 2 day a week part time office job. If I could have found full time work I would gladly have taken it. I worked two days in Febraury as a floral designer and realized with the resultant back pain that I could never go back to that type of work again. Doctors have been telling me this for 11 years, but I dont let go easily! Anyway that was my plan "B" if I couldn't make it as an artist. I felt afraid and turned to eating as a comfort ( gained 35 lbs. ) I spent the remainder of last winter and spring feeling sorry for myself and doing very little painting. I'm not sure why, but Late this summer especially in September at the Wings & Water Festival I finally began to feel revitalized and interested in growing as an artist again. I'm still poor as dirt and racking up debt for the first time in my adult life...but hey Life does goes on and the spirit that guided me into painting remains ...always waiting for me to tap into it!

Scull's Bay Sunrise 8x10

A few years ago I did a series of sunrise paintings from this spot. A few days ago I returned for the first time in over a year! Still just as pretty.

Wings and Water

I managed to produce several decent plein air pieces for the recent Wings & Water Festival in Stone Harbor and Avalon. 25 % of the sales went to support the Wetlands Institute..a very worthy cause. Hobie Cats. 11x14

A fine old south jersey institution. I'm doing a demo for their Sunday Brunch this week...and putting some work in the gift shop( via the Noyes Museum )! The best part is that I finally seem to be pulling out of the winter slump. 6x8

Hammonton Farmlands

6x6. The smaller of two paintings I did last week for the annual Hammonton Noyes Museum Paint Out.The larger( and better )painting is on display until the end of the month...I'll get an image then! My day was cut short after getting infested with ticks while doing this little piece. I was sitting on a grassy hill, didnt think they would be in a place like that!

Summer in the Park

I'll be adding some more definition to the leaves and lilypads, but I'm quite happy with this warm summer memory in the cold of February. Been working on commissions ...several are copies of paintings that were already sold. Out of respect to my collectors I will never publicly show repeats, even though I retain the right to the image. As it is I've never been that comfortable copying previous works, but these days I simply can not turn my back on any income oppurtunities. 12x16

Yellow Roses

My Basset Hound Archie passed away two weeks ago at the ripe old age of 13 1/2. I spent the previous two weeks spending every moment with him that I could, knowing that my old friend and companion was nearing his end. These flowers were a sympathy arrangement. 6x6

Changing Times

It feels to me sometimes that after 6 years this blog has run it's course. I thought for a while I would just start a new blog or simply let the blogosphere go. One thing ...as far as marketing goes I've had a lot of success on facebook this past year, so I'm much more inclined to post the freshly finished painting there. However as a side gallery to my website I think Chuck Law's Art Pages should continue on. It's also my easiest and favorite archive for all the smaller works I've produced since going "professional". So what am I trying to say here...the blog will ultimately continue on, but the posts will be less frequent as they've been for a while. Meanwhile here is one from last week.
