I was a Navy child... born in Nice, France 1960. The family returned to the states in 1962. I used to think about it a lot when I was a small child. Then not so much as I grew older. When my father took me back to see the tiny village of Villefranche sur-Mer ( where they lived for 3 years ), it really made me appreciate this part of my life.
Had to finish this one in the studio. Three quarters in and the 30 mph wind gusts came up.... blowing sand directly into my face and eyes. Exhilarating, but impossible to continue on site.
6x8 dashboard painting. I turn the car off when I do a painting from the driver's seat. Still consider it plein air in my book. the bad back and shoulder don't do so well in 15 degree weather.
